About

I come primarily from a Textile Design background having gained a BA in Textile Design at Leeds University in England. Already during my first year I realised that it was the creative process I enjoyed and not the textile industry. I visualised my 2D designs as 3D sculptures and so after Leeds I moved on to a 1 year course in Ceramics at Bristol Polytechnic, School of Adult Art Studies, followed by a 1 year postgraduate in Art Education obtaining an ATC in Expressive Arts from Sussex University.

All my creative work stems from my early life experiences, shaped and led to expression by my academic specialisations.

I was brought up on a mediterranean island amongst orange groves and ancient ruins. The light is different there. Colours are bright and stunning. The sun sets quickly and the nights are dark. Pine covered mountains plunge down to a craggy coastline framed by deep blue water changing to clear turquoise and golden sand.

Sun, fruit, sea, mountains, neolithic pots, ancient amphitheatres with contemporary performances, colonial architecture embellished with floors of intricately patterned encaustic tiles.

All this influences the colours I choose and the shapes I design. These experiences during my formative years helped me search for similar sources in the countries I subsequently lived in, adapting my work to cultural and geographical surroundings, merging new experiences with those of the past and moving on to new creative work.
